The mechanism
A tube motor or manual crank extends the arms, which pull the fabric taut from a roller tube. In cassette models, the entire mechanism — fabric, arms and roller — retracts into a protective housing when closed, shielding it from rain, UV and dust. Wind sensors can automatically retract the awning in gusty conditions to prevent damage.

What's the difference between cassette and folding-arm awnings?
A cassette awning encloses the fabric and arms completely when retracted, protecting them from weather and extending fabric life considerably compared to an open folding-arm unit.
Can an awning withstand wind?
Motorized awnings can be fitted with a wind sensor that automatically retracts the fabric once wind speed exceeds a safe threshold, preventing frame damage.
How long does the fabric last?
Quality acrylic awning fabric is fade- and weather-resistant and typically performs well for 8–10+ years with normal use, longer in cassette systems.
Is electrical wiring required for a motorized awning?
Yes, a nearby power point is needed for the tube motor. We can advise on wiring requirements during your on-site survey.
